For consultants
Share confidential reports with clients, and know they were read
Send the report as a view-only link instead of a file that can be saved and passed around. Add a password, an expiry date or a list of allowed readers, and get an alert when the client opens it.
FileSeen lets consultants share confidential reports as view-only links with a password, expiry and an email watermark, and see when the client opened them.
A deliverable leaves your hands the moment you attach it
An attached report can be saved, printed and forwarded, and you never learn whether it was read.
- Send a link instead: the client reads it in the browser and the file stays with you.
- Add a password or an expiry date, and switch the link off at any time.
- The reader's email and the date go on every page, and only the people or domains you list can open it.
- Get an email every time it is opened.
How consultants share a report
Protect it, send it, see it read
Set the protection once; it applies to everyone who opens the link.
-
Step 1
Upload the report
PDF, Word, PowerPoint or Excel. Office files are shown in the browser as laid out (Free).
-
Step 2
Choose the protection
Password and expiry are free, and so are the email watermark and only listed people, such as @client.com.
-
Step 3
Get told when it is opened
An email on every open is free, and so are a daily summary and Slack alerts.
-
Step 4
Switch it off when the work ends
Turn the link off or delete it, and it stops working for everyone at once (Free).
The protection a confidential deliverable needs
All of these are on the free plan, for 3 links.
- View-only (Free): no download button and printing blanked. A screenshot still works.
- Email watermark: the reader's email and the date on every PDF page.
- Only listed people: named emails or a client domain, confirmed with a one-time code.
- Consent box: a statement to tick first. It is not a signed non-disclosure agreement.
- Replace a file, same link: version two on the same link.
- Your logo and time on each page, with your own domain on Pro: reports.yourfirm.com, and proof the summary was read.

When FileSeen fits, and when it does not
A good fit
- Consultants, auditors and small firms sending reports to a few contacts.
- Deliverables to be read, not kept: view-only, expiry, watermark.
- Firms that want reports under their own name and domain.
Not the right tool
- Client portals that collect documents: FileSeen only shares them.
- Signed NDAs: the consent box is a tick box, not a signature.
- Detecting forwarding: FileSeen names confirmed readers, not forwards.
FAQ
Report sharing questions
How can I share a confidential report so it cannot be downloaded?
Share it as a FileSeen link: PDFs open view-only with no download button and printing blanked. A screenshot still works, so add the email watermark and the email check.
Can I limit a report to people at my client's company?
Yes. Add the client's domain, such as @client.com, to Only listed people. Readers confirm their email with a one-time code and anyone else is turned away.
Will I know if the client actually read the report?
Yes. You get an email every time it is opened and the stats page shows the reading time, who it was and the time on each page.
Can a client view the report without creating an account?
Yes. The link opens in any browser with no account, app or download. If you turn on the email check, they type a one-time code from their inbox.
How does FileSeen compare to DocSend for an independent consultant?
DocSend has no free plan: on 18 October 2026 Personal was $10 per user a month billed yearly and Standard $45. FileSeen's free plan includes the watermark, the email check and the allow list on 3 links; Pro is $12 a month or $99 a year. DocSend adds e-signatures. More on the DocSend alternative page.
Can I revoke access after the project ends?
Yes. Turn the link off or delete it from the dashboard and it stops working for everyone at once.
