What is a .pages file?

The file Apple's word processor, Pages, saves on a Mac, iPhone or iPad. Windows and Android have no app for it, which is why it often arrives as a file nobody can open. Apple explains how to convert Pages, Numbers and Keynote files from its own apps.

Where your file goes

Browsers cannot read Pages files, so this tool works differently from the other FileSeen tools: the file is uploaded. It travels over an encrypted connection to FileSeen's own server, where LibreOffice converts it in a sealed-off folder with no internet access. The original and the converted copy are deleted as soon as the result is sent back, usually within seconds. Nothing is kept, nobody looks at it, and the file name is not logged.

Rather not upload it? On a Mac, iPhone or iPad, the app itself can export it: in Pages, choose Share, then Export and Send (Apple's steps).

FAQ

Pages viewer questions

How do I open a Pages file on Windows?

Choose it at the top of this page. It is shown here in the browser a few seconds later, and you can download it as Word or PDF.

Can I open a Pages file without a Mac?

Yes. This page works on any computer or phone with a browser. Nothing to install and no Apple account.

Can I edit the Pages file?

Download it as Word with the button above the pages, then edit it in Word or Google Docs. The Pages to Word converter does the same in one step.

Is my file kept?

No. It is uploaded only to be converted for viewing, and both copies are deleted right after. Its name is not logged.

Why does my Pages file show as a folder or a zip?

Older Pages files were saved as a package. Zip it on the Mac and choose the .pages.zip here, or save it again in a recent Pages version.
